A majority of bass pieces are simply glorified improvisations. A new kind of instrumental jazz music took stage in the 1940s and 1950s – a complex and unconventional style known as bebop. The instruments of jazz came from the European brass bands. Soul jazz was a development of hard bop which incorporated strong influences from blues, gospel and rhythm and blues in music for small groups, often the organ trio, which partnered a Hammond organ player with a drummer and a tenor saxophonist.
